Heard from our Genesis Family
I sure hope Alan is saving all these essays of his weekend escapades so he can write a book some day!!
Lennie Stout

Alan and Karen
Just wanted to send you a note letting you know how much I appreciated your visit to Clare Bridge on March 31. I especially thank you for singing "Happy Birthday" to my husband Odell. You put a smile on his face. I was glad that Pat could get Odell up to dance the Mexican hat dance. Keep up your great work and may God bless you!
Sandy Binkley

After playing softball for 31 years, part of me died when I couldn't play ball anymore. I knew I would gain weight and I did. I tried exercising, walking but nothing worked. But I've found a new passion in Genesis. I feel like I'm living again! I've still got bad feet, bad back, bad knees right now, but I'm loving this.
Debbie Oliver

Want to end your day on a positive note? Want to walk into a room full of neighbors, friends, acquaintances and happy people who are looking to better themselves? Want to be led by a spirit-inspired individual who helps give you strength?

Welcome to Genesis Lifestyle Solutions.

I am Rose, and I have recently joined the exercise class in Caswell County. Class includes connection with the Spirit, stretch, weight-bearing exercises, aerobics and the most fun I ever imagined with dance. Okay, I have some ailments: COPD, osteoporosis, sciatica and an abdominal hernia. What is the doctor's Rx for all that? Exercise! I am happy and my doctor is happy too. In six weeks, my waist and tummy are smaller and my legs are stronger. Yes, I sweat, strain, groan, feel like some of my joints are cemented, heart pounds and my legs want to find the nearest chair. Ha! It is getting easier all the time and my fumbling around with dance is improving. Considering I am nearly 66 and haven't ever danced, I am OK with that. I have limitations but I don't see it that way anymore. I look at as overcoming obstacles that I have put in my own way and now I am putting them behind me. Thank you Shelia, my pal, for inviting me to join. This has been an answer to prayer. Ya'll come too!
Rose Cobb

Salute to Jessica
Jessica Gywnn came to us in November of 2009. At age 19 she began with the activity class in Cherry Grove. Alan saw potential in her that she did not see in herself. Now after joining the full program in January 2010, she has lost 36 lbs. and assists Alan in the activity and nutrition classes. She drives to South every Monday to help Pam Lynch and Alan. She is an inspiration to all of us! Genesis Lifestyle Solutions salutes her for her commitment, and love of the program.

For Fellowship Baptist Church, we are still collecting stuffed animals for bingo prizes and non-perishable food for their community outreach. And we wouldn't turn away more bottled water for the Genesis scholarship fund. Alan's birthday waters are dwindling down now!

Who's Foolin' Who?

Heard from our Genesis Family (concerning Alan's weekend)
This sounds like too much sugar to me. Remember 7 grams or more it should stay in the store. I think you brough't it home.......Kim Hensley

Alan, you could be another Dave Barry.
That was fun reading! But alas, you left out the answer to the biggest burning question: So did you get your shaver box opened, and will you show up Monday morning cleanly shaven?-Holly IM THINKIN...Alan needs his OWN COLUMN in the TIMES-NEWS...("Alan's ADVENTURES or ALAN'S ODDITIES) hahahaha!!! But if it's any consolation.....to buy razor blades for my Venus razor...you have to give a card to the cashier and they get them from some secret vault or something.....and the same with ZYRTEC ALLERGY MEDICINE......It's a CRAZY WORLD WE LIVE IN!.... Kay Dobbs
Hey! I can totally relate to this. I was trying to buy just the razors. They too guarded. I thought " What the! anyway". After 35 minutes of waiting I left Wal-Mart without razors! It's super crazy! Dawn Harris
I am becoming more thankful every Monday for my dull weekends... -Belinda A. Thomas

I've got so much energy,
that I don't know what to do with it all. I feel better than I ever had.
Thanks Karen and Alan!.... Carrie Shaw

Thanks Genesis Family.
We now have enough green beans, peas and corn right now in the food pantry at Fellowship. Perhaps the Genesis family can bring other items for our pantry. -Jack Brewer

Thanks Genesis really has worked. No weight gains - either lost or maintain every week. Alan says this is not a religious program but I beg to differ. Without the help of God and Alan's program I would not be at my goal. (Aileen has now reached her first goal weight after losing 36 pounds. Yeee-Hawwww!)
Aileen McPherson

I love to jazz it up, but I also love the group nutritional meetings because I get so much useful information!
Susan Reagan

Brenda and I had to miss class today and will miss on Friday. We hope to see you guys on Monday. Thanks for all you do.
Steve and Brenda Hill.
If Alan calls my name I will hold my hand up at home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Concerning Alan's weekend escapades

OK.............that is the funniest thing EVER!!!!! We had pompass grass where we USED to live. You don't even need a drop of gas to light those things. Every blade is its own match!!! We are, and will continue to pray for Alan!!!!
Janet Bailey

The pompass grass is the best tale yet! I laughed until my sides hurt and the tears ran down my face. I know a place where Parker can have replacement eyebrows done if he wants them.
Belinda

This was great! I loved it!! I am still laughing!!!
Thanks!! Karen James

This "plant of many knife blades" is best dug up! (this may take the backhoe from Hades) We had 4 of them at the beach (very tropical looking) We had to cut them with a chain saw with the blade on backward. (They are opposed to fire on the island). I do believe God either has a sense of humor or the plant has morphed into something evil.
Bonnie Firth

You are a bad bad child.
Connie Vickers

Medical Tips from Medicap Pharmacy
Vitamin K and Bone Strength A recent review in Nutrition Research states that higher doses of vitamin K improved bone strength and reduced the risk of fracture in post menopausal women. Vitamin K may help activate a protein that aids bones in utilizing calcium. Researchers say it's too soon to recommend high-dose supplements but getting more vitamin K in your diet is a good idea. It is found in broccoli, kale, spinach and other green leafy vegetables. Warning: Vitamin K can interfere with the blood thinner warfarin (Coumadin), so if you take this drug, ask your doctor how much vitamin K is safe to consume.

After dropping another 3 pounds this week
Karen James said she was getting it. Because she is taking care of others, she's got to take care of herself as well!

Litter Box Cake
1 yellow cake, made according to instructions on cake mix box 1 spice cake, made according to instructions on cake mix box 1 large sugar-free instant pudding, made according to instructions on box
Vanilla wafer cookie crumbs
Green food coloring
Tootsie Rolls
1 clean litter box (never used for cat litter, preferably NEW)
1 clean poop-er scooper (never used in a cat's litter box, preferably NEW)
Crumble cooled cakes in litter box. Make pudding and let set for several minutes until mostly set. Scatter spoonfuls of pudding over cake, then lightly fold in. Mix several drops of green color with about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of cookie crumbs. Scatter some non-green crumbs over cake to look more like litter. Scatter some or all of the green crumbs to look like chlorophyll litter.
Put 4 to 6 tootsie rolls on small plate. Microwave them for 5-8 seconds, or longer, so that tootsie rolls are barely soft, just soft enough to be pliable. Stretch, crease, put together several to make them look like kitty poop. Repeat with the 4-6 tootsie rolls until satisfied with the looks of the cake. Hang at least one over the side of the litter box. Serve with poop-er scooper.

TP Tuesday has been such a success
that there is no more room in the supply closet for paper goods. So our host church FB suggested that we could start bringing non-perishable food for their food pantry to give to folks down on their luck. But remember no black beans! Bible Study led by Pastor Van Nelson is held every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at Fellowship. Our Genesis family is invited to nurture their faith.

Tune into the TV!
Our own Kaye Dobbs reports that we should watch public television this weekend (her hubby Bobby produces the William Friday show.) The speaker, Dr. Assad Meymandi, is a noted psychiatrist, humanist, and philanthropist. He makes the point that obesity is the number one issue confronting our health care system today. The show airs Friday, March 26 at 9 p.m. and Sunday March 28 at 5:30 p.m. on UNC-TV.

Class Schedule Changes
Our Monday evening class will be held as scheduled next week, March 29 at 6 p.m. But we are also having a Genesis demonstration for the Elon faculty and the congregation of First Baptist Church of Elon at 5:30 p.m. that Monday night. Take your choice- but make sure that you come jazz it up. We will not have Genesis classes on Monday, April 5 to celebrate Easter. Watch for our April calendar which will be out next week.

Genesis Girls Night Out
is coming up the last Friday in April at Annie Fox's home. The first 35 ladies who sign up are invited to come along with a friend who is not yet a Genesis member. We will start a sign-up sheet next week

HEALTH TIPS FROM MEDICAP PHARMACY The Secret To Healthier Retirement?
Work a little! A study compared people who quit working entirely to those who officially retired, but kept working part-time or in temp jobs. Researchers found those who worked were less likely to be diagnosed with diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, lung disease, heart disease, stroke, arthritis and psychiatric problems. Work is good for you because it can provide physical activity, a daily structure, social interaction, increased finances, a chance to learn new skills and a sense of purpose and identity. Another study found that retirees who volunteered had half the death risk of those who did not.

Health Tip From Medicap Pharmacy
Having high cholesterol in mid-life may increase your risk of dementia later on. A 40-year study of almost 10,000 people found that those with cholesterol levels above 240 during their 40s were 66% more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease, compared to those whose levels were below 200. Also, those people who had borderline high levels of 200 to 239 had a higher risk of vascular dementia. Other research has shown that cholesterol-lowering drugs may decrease the risk of dementia and cognitive decline. A heart-healthy diet and regular exercise may also help lower cholesterol.

Hi Karen, Look like I just can't get it together. I was out for a couple weeks with a virus. Now I am having problems with my left upper arm, again. I am having a MRI on Thursday of this week. I may try to come to class and just not do the exercises that include lifting or movement of the arm. I really miss coming. Just for a good report, I went to the doctor today and my AIC Test was down to 6. 8. When I started in September it was 11. Then when I went in October it was 7. It is constantly coming down. My cholesterol was down even more. I think alot of it has to do with "Genesis Life Solution." I miss you and the gang. Hope to see you soon. Hee-haw!

Hello, My name is Tina Hall, one of the Caswell Crazies!!
I just wanted you and Alan and the gang to know that I've lost 2 inches around both my waist and hips since starting Genesis in November. I measured myself right after I started around the 12th and I measured today and I saw the difference. The proof is in the measuring tape, it doesn't lie! I really haven't lost any weight, haven't gained either, but is that normal to lose inches and not lose weight? Just wondering! Maybe it's turned to muscle instead of fat!! Thanks so much for all yall do.

Reducing Your Health Risk Factors: The Benefits of Exercise Adherence
It's no secret that being overweight can cause many strains on the body, especially in terms of risks for disease. Committing to adhere to an exercise plan is the first step in reducing the body's risk. With regular exercise, the body decreases the risk for heart disease and stroke, lowers blood pressure, increases lean muscle mass, improves metabolism (the body's ability to use calories efficiently), decreases back pain, builds strength and endurance, improves flexibility, decreases the likelihood for osteoporosis by increasing bone formation, improves mood by releasing endorphins, promotes better sleep, gives you more energy, reduces anxiety and depression. Ultimately, this helps you live longer and healthier. With 1/3 of the population (approximately 60 million people) being overweight, why not exercise? The benefits are too great. Keep up with those jazz classes, there's absolutely no doubt you'll be feeling the benefits in the future.

Heard From Our Genesis Family
How are things going? I bet there are lots more people attending jazz and joining Genesis. I will REALLY be starting all over, which I know goes against the whole Genesis program... what can I say? I have fallen off the wagon, but will get back on again! I love you guys and appreciate that you love me too, in spite of my weaknesses.
See you Monday. I WILL be at the 5:30 AM class unless something unforeseen happens.
Love,
Anonymous
